Tim McGraw's career spans thirty years which is just incredibleAnd when he was first with Big Machine, he released three albumsAnd a lot of those songs off those albums are what you're gonna findOn his new McGraw Machine Hits Greatest Hits album. And we'reCelebrating that today by talking to Tim about some of the songsIncluding "Top of the World", which was the first song that heReleased off his Damn Country Music album in 2015And I had a chance to ask Tim, you know, what was itAbout this song that not only made him wanna record itBut make it the first single off of Damn Country MusicThe thing about "Top of the World" that was appealing to me andCertainly when we made the record, how it came out the other sideWhat appealed to me about it is it's got a little bit of everythingThat's going on in music right now, and it's got a little bit of aThrowback thing to it. And I don't think that at first blush peopleWould think that 'cause it's got such a modern edge to it, but whenYou hear the verses in the song, especially right at the beginningIt almost reminds me a little bit of some of the old Oak Ridge BoysSongs with the melody that it has at the beginning. And then whenIt goes into the chorus, it goes into this sort of a little bitOf a techno kind of thing that really sounds cool, so I think it'sGot the best of both worlds and that was what appealed to meBecause that's what this album sort of has. It has a little bitOf the stuff that I grew up listening to and a little bit of theStuff that was going on when I first moved to town into NashvilleSort of like Keith Whitley or, or something like that, uh, RandyTravis. It's got a little bit of that kind of sound in there thatThat made me fall in love with country music. And it's also gotSome great story songs and some great songs about life lessonsWhich I always love to sing, and those kind of songs that sort ofTell a beautiful story. So it's got a little bit of all those thingsAnd I think "Top of the World" probably summed up all of thatI always thought this song just felt good, and it's off of TimMcGraw's new Greatest Hits album. Here is "Top of the World"
