"Church Boots" was a really fun day in the writing room. It was myFirst time gettin' to write with this artist named Ernest, alongWith Jesse Frazier and Ashley Gorley, who I've written tons of songsWith, and they had already kinda started a song when I walked intoThe room, and when I came in, we kinda finished what we were writingAnd everyone was about to pack up and leave, and I remember ErnestStarted playing this little lick on the guitar that we all thoughtWas really cool, and this is, like, one of those moments where it'sLike, "We love the melody, but what are we gonna write over it?"And, uh, I literally, the day before, had typed this title into myPhone called "Church Boots," and I had no idea why. Maybe I lookedDown at my boots on a Sunday and I was like, "These are my churchBoots." And I remember Ashley saying something like, "Yeah, my workBoots are my church boots," and I was like, "What does that actuallyMean?" And so we wrote this whole storyline of kinda how, as a dudeI feel like I'm just kinda the same all the way through. You knowMy old truck is my new truck, my good shirt is my new shirt, I partyOn this dirt, I make money on this dirt, and it's, like, kinda allThese little innuendos of how you're kinda just the same dude throughAnd through, and that's okay. And then hooking it with "My workBoots are my church boots." And I just thought, looking on paper atThe title "Church Boots," we all thought that was really interestingAnd, and it's a really uptempo, fun song that I think a lot of peopleAre gonna be able to relate to. So I loved gettin' to write thisSong. It was really cool that my first song with Ernest turned outTo be this song, and hopefully here's to many more in the future
