I was looking for a place to hang my hatAnd a place to lay me down my heavy loadI found it in the woods, in the cabin on the hillDown at the end of the roadWe were looking for a place to raise a child'Cause she'd soon be giving birth, the one that showedAnd we found it in the woods, in the cabin on the hillDown at the end of the roadDown at the end of the roadDown at the end of an old country roadWe found what we needed for the family we would raiseDown at the end of the roadA girl was born, December 23rdJust one day short of Christmas EveAnd through the years we tried to move many different timesBut we landed on the place we couldn't leaveSo we prayed to God that we might have a sonAnd he was born December '92And we keep lookin' for a place to move away, move awayBut leavin' was a thing we couldn't do20 years flew by like 20 daysAnd the blessings grew from the initial seed we'd sownOur kids will soon be leavin' nowThey'll leave us here behindDown at the end of the roadDown at the end of the roadDown at the end of an old country roadWe found what we needed for the family we would raiseDown at the end of the road
