Like a leafCaught in the wind he drifted a whileWith no purpose or directionTo his lifeHe tried to get himself togetherAnd pacify his mindAnd forget about the things he'd left behindA cryin' womanHe left standing at his doorWith a two month old baby in her armsHis little black book he left torn up on the floorGod only knows he never meant to do her wrongA careless weekendOn the other side of townHas torn the king of Oak Street's Castle downAnd all week long he's tried to phone herBut she won't let him explainNow Sunday morningFinds him walking in the rainHe sits downIn a phone booth and he praysThat she'll forgive himAnd she'll believe he's changed his waysWith shaking handsHe deposits his last dimeAnd he's still praying that she won't hang up this timeThen the sweetest voiceHe's ever heard says hello"Breakfast's almost ready baby, come on home"I've thought the whole thing overAnd I think I understandThat the king of Oak Street is just an ordinary manI've thought the whole thing overAnd I think I understandThat the king of Oak StreetIs just an ordinary man
