I grew up without a fatherHe's been locked up since '96But there's another man, he ain't here no moreThat raised me as a kidWe used to ride out to the battlefieldAnd he'd tell me stories 'bout the pastHe taught me the things he knew I'd need to knowAnd answered all the questions that I'd askI hope he's smiling up there lookin' downAnd proud of this wild child that came aroundI got my pop's last nameStill feel his hand here on my shoulderI still hear him sayYou'll understand when you get olderToday, I couldn't be any more grateful, thankful, or proud to sayI got my pop's last nameI got my pop's last nameHe taught me, "Yes, Ma'am, No, Ma'am""God is good and "God is great"Taught me elbows off the tableAnd always clean your plateHe said knowledge over money'Cause the ones with money always payHe left little bits of gold like that all over the placeI got my pop's last nameStill feel his hand here on my shoulderI still hear him sayYou'll understand when you get olderToday, I couldn't be any more grateful, thankful, or proud to sayI got my pop's last nameI got my pop's last name, yeahHe gave it to his daughter and meAlong with all that love and all that timeAnd now here I am, a father, proud to beGiving his to mineMy pop's last nameStill feel his hand here on my shoulderMy pop's last nameI understand now that I'm olderToday, I couldn't be any more grateful, thankful, or proud to sayI got my pop's last nameI got my pop's last name, yeahRest in peace, PopI love you, buddy
