It all started back in 1981Our life together had just begunI didn't know what my future would holdBut you gave me a chanceSo I set out on the roadIt wasn't easy going thenThere were times I almost threw that old towel inBut you kept callin' me back to the stageAnd I finally found my place in each and every faceI'm not sayin' I'm through by any meansThere's still things that I want to say and doI hope you won't forget me, 'cause we've shared a lot of dreamsAnd just know that I'll always remember youWhen I first set out on the road, I figuredI had maybe five good years to sing my songs for you folksWell, it's goin' on 30 nowAnd I still love it just as much as I ever didWhen I hear that announcer say my nameAnd I walk through those curtainsAnd see your smilin' facesMy feet don't touch the ground again'Til I walk out and get back on that bus that got me hereI don't know how many more years I've got left to do thisBut I figure a fewI do want you to know, thoughThat when I do walk off this stage for the last timeAnd I'm all settled in, away from all thisYou won't be far awayI'll still hear your screams and cheers in my mindAnd I'll always remember youI'm not sayin' I'm through by any means'Cause there's still things that I want to say and doI hope you won't forget me, 'cause we've shared a lot of dreamsAnd just know that I'll always remember youYou've pulled me through some hard timesHope I've pulled you through a fewAnd just know that I'll always remember you
