Lay me down on the hillside, cover up my eyesI don't wanna see another shepherd lurking in disguiseLead his flock back to the slaughter with sugarcoated liesLay me down on the hillside and cover up my eyesLay me down on the hillside and cover up my earsI don't wanna hear the choir prey upon our deepest fearsOr the preachers drink from cisterns loaded full of fallen tearsLay me down on the hillside and cover up my earsLay me down on the hillsideLay me down and walk awayLeave no roses on my headstoneLeave no footprints in the clayJust lay me down and walk awayLay me down on the hillside and cover up my mouthSo I can't tell the truth beyond the shadow of a doubtI don't wanna make a promise just to fail to keep my vowsLay me down on the hillside and cover up my mouthLay me down on the hillsideLay me down and walk awayLeave no roses on my headstoneLeave no footprints in the clayJust lay me down and walk awayLay me down on the hillside, turn away your faceAnd leave no post or marker just to sanctify this placeRaise nothing in my honor, it wasn't worth the wasteLay me down on the hillside, turn away your faceLay me down on the hillsideLay me down and walk awayLeave no roses on my headstoneLeave no footprints in the clayLay me down on the hillsideI don't wanna meet this wayLet me lay there in the darknessYou know that's where I wanna stayJust lay me down and walk away
