Way back in the mountainsWay back in the hillsThere used to live a mountaineerThey called him Fiddlin' WillHe could play most anythingAnd some say he could singBut the one thing that he liked to do bestWas sawing on the stringsSo get out the fiddleAnd rosin' up the bowLook at ol' Will a-pattin' his toeWe'll make music 'til the rafters ringAll that pickin' and a-sawin' on the stringsWhen the neighbours had a shindigAnd they all had vittles to eatWe'd always have to wait on WillFor the frolic to be completeWhen he comes down from the mountainAll the gals began to swaySometimes he'd pick that ol' five-stringUntil the break of daySo tune up the five-stringTighten up the hideTell all the young folks to get insideWe'll make music 'til the rafters ringAll them pickin' and a-sawing on the stringSo tune up the five-stringTighten up the hideTell all the young folks to get insideWe'll make music 'til the rafters ringAll them pickin' and a-sawing on the string
